Lord Ganesha Urli

An urli is a quintessential part of Indian households. It is a broad vessel of short depth. It is filled with water, and then its surface strewn with fresh petals. Usually placed at the threshold of Indian homes, this arrangement suffuses the entrance with an aromatic whiff and makes for a feast to the eyes. Of all the urlis from the Exotic India collection, this one stands out in terms of the ornate brass-and-inlay workmanship.

It is not just a beautiful decorative object, but also auspicious. Lord Ganesha, flanked by sacred elephants snd peacocks, rests on an elaborate, richly inlaid mount that extends from the rim of the pot. A bell shape, achieved through superb inlay, graces the front of the urli. Solid pastels have been inlaid on the elephants' saddles, the peacocks' plumage, the outer rim of the vessel, and the stand itself.
